Customer Reviews for  'Cook'n Recipe Organizer 8.2'

Very flaky, many re-installs. President Dan's attitude says it all
Read the president of the company's post above & you'll get a taste of the smarmy attitude that you get from support when you call, & you will.

There's clearly a void for a high quality piece of software at a reasonable price here. I've tried several & have given up. I've come to the conclusion that there isn't enough money in the genre to justify a real outfit to produce something stable & does what we want.

Pen, paper & Google is a better choice. Sad, very sad.

Junk Junk Junk
DO NOT BUY. Dan spends his day shooting videos and marketing instead of getting the program in working order! We purchased this expecting this wonderful tool. Reviews talked about how unfriendly the program was. I just scoffed at the reviews I read here because Dan shows it working. Guess what. He shows you the couple of dummy things that do work. We called tech support (Jeff) and got help. The tech took over our computer and HE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH NO ANSWERS! We wanted our money back. DVO wants their junk product back before even honoring a 100% guarantee (website states 200% return but Barbara (Dan's personel assistant) says that they do not advertise that even they do if you look it up and Dan even states it). Dan I'm sure will write a review about how I'm just difficult but the truth is, he is an excellent marketer. Too bad he is not as talented of a programmer!

Terrible! Misleading advertising and outdated.
I purchased this Cook'n software specifically because it states on the box-- "Download Recipes from the Internet." It then lists several popular recipe sites including Recipezaar, [...], and All Recipes. It also states, "...simply download internet recipes into Cook'n and keep them in one central database for easy access." Very misleading!!! You can only "download" recipes from the DVO Cook'n site. If you want to get recipes from the other sites listed, you can only do so by cutting and pasting them into Cook'n. Cut and paste is certainly NOT the same as downloading! How intentionally misleading!! If you are looking to download recipes from popular cooking websites as it states on the box, forget it. Cook'n and its maker DVO should be ashamed of their false advertising! In addition, the software is cumbersome and outdated. I would advise anyone looking for recipe software to look elsewhere!

Still Awful
After trying a few other "cheapy" recipe management programs, I came to the conclusion that "you get what you pay for", so I tried the Cook N software. Boy was I wrong. This program is no better than the $9 bargain bin stuff... but with an outrageous price tag! Don't be fooled as I was.

The interface is still clumsy at best and it's easy to get "lost" in the software. As others have mentioned, it might have been good 20 years ago, but most people expect more from their software nowadays. CookN is a big disappointment.

The help and support include lots of "helpful" topics, like "how to export recipes to a floppy disk" (gee, the last two computers I bought don't even have floppy drives!). In general, it doesn't support "modern" (circa 2000) methods or formats. Converting .jpg's to .bmp's is ridiculous. And there's still no good way to import recipe's from the web.

It's just an old, dated program that hasn't kept up with the rest of the world. And it's yours for *only* $75!

There are several other products that are literally less than half the price of CookN that are far superior in virtually every aspect. Unless you have money to burn or just like to torture yourself, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for a good recipe management program.

Worth the money
I ordered Cook'n a couple of months ago because I really wanted a program to manage all of the recipes I have collected over the years and a good menu planner. So far, I am pleased with the program. I do wish that the pictures weren't on different tab, but that is not a huge deal. It is easy to use and I love the fact that when I am finished entering in all of the recipes I can print a family cookbook.

I only thing that I am truly disappointed with is the online support. The software comes with a cookbook that you can download. However, when I tried to download it, I could not. I contacted the company via email and no one ever answered. I work during their office hours/online chat hours, so email was my only option.

In all, I really like the software. I think it will end up being worth the money I paid for it. I just wish I could get the cookbook that comes with it.
