Product Description |
|
The Bodum 8.5 ounce Pavina double wall glass can be used for cold or warm beverages. Its unique design is appealing to the eye when filled with your favorite beverage. With its double layer of borosilicate glass it appears as though the liquid is 'floating' within the glass. They will not sweat when filled with a cold beverage, so you will not have to use a coaster. The double wall creates a thermal effect, helping to keep your cold drinks cold and your hot drinks hot for longer periods of time. These mouth blown glasses are an exciting product for any home, restaurant, or cafe and they are a definite conversation piece. Bodum’s insulated glassware is made from durable Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a strong heat-resistant glass traditionally used to make scientific lab glass. Stronger than traditional “soda-lime” glass, borosilicate can be used for everything from drinkware to cookware. Borosilicate glass substitutes boron oxide in place of the soda and lime used in everyday glassware. The boron oxide acts as the glue holding the silicate together. Due to small size of boron particles, the glass is held together tighter, resulting in a stronger, lighter glass. Borosilicate glass doesn’t need to be as thick as traditional glass to be just as strong due to the bonding capability boron oxide. Borosilicate is simply a different type of glass that is resistant to temperature swings and scratching. Because the particles are held together so tightly, borosilicate glass is resistant to temperature swings, In addition to being dishwasher safe borosilicate will not become cloudy over time; you can rest assured that after 1,000 cycles, the glass will be as clear as the day you bought it. |

Cooksale.com Review |
|
With futuristic looks and high-tech construction, Bodum's Pavina drinkware makes an exciting departure from traditional glassmaking. The walls of each vessel are crafted from two layers of clear glass, creating an optical illusion that the liquid is suspended inside. Softening the look, Pavina's shapes feature smooth, rounded silhouettes. The inner wall also curves slightly away from the outer wall for a touch of understated elegance. This set of two double old fashioned/tumbler glasses serves anything from minty mojitos to hot cocoa. Crafted of borosilicate glass, which is also used to make scientific lab equipment, the pair is exceptionally strong, lightweight, and thermal. The two-layer construction also resists heat and prevents condensation, so no matter what temperature the beverage is, the glasses remain comfortable to hold and safe for any tabletop. Winner of the prestigious European IF Design Award, this 9-ounce, scratch-resistant set also goes into the dishwasher and microwave. Mix and match Pavina with the Assam and Canteen lines to stock the bar or dining table with a variety of fun shapes. --Kara Karll Editor's Note: Because the glasses are mouth blown, each one may have slight variations in height, thickness, and weight. Bodum recommends using care when placing ice into the glass to avoid fracturing the inner layer. Do not use metal spoons or place the glass into a crowded dishwasher. |

easy to break |
These are use for my lattes. Minor contact with other hard glasses will cause breakage. No warranty, most likely. I will not replace the two I have left after they break.
I liked the product very much, the extra careful handling required is tedious. |

Beautiful, functional, just be attentive |
The sleek, elegant aesthetic of these glasses had me smitten once I saw them online. I was fortunate enough to receive a full set of varying sizes (12-oz, 15 oz and some mugs) for Christmas last year (2009) and I am glad to report that I simply LOVE them.
Granted: Between my husband and I, we broke three 15-oz ones in the past year that we had them (and have bought 2 replacements thus far). That said, we broke two of them (on separate occasions) while washing, when our hands are soapy and essentially bashed them against the side of the sink. The third one we broke out of sheer clumsiness, when I dropped the entire glass when handing it to my husband to put away :(
Thankfully we have no had any issues with breakage due to ice cubes or stirring with metal spoons etc., that I have read in some reviews.
The 12-oz glasses and Bodum Bistro Double-Wall Insulated 10-Ounce Glass Mug, Set of 2, that we use on a daily basis for hot and cold beverages, are holding up really well, no scratches or any sign of wear at all. I believe, due to the shape of the glasses and how thinly the glass is "stretched", the smaller/shorter the glass, the more durable it is because the glass is denser.
With regard to children, when our little nieces (ages 5 and 8) visit, we're not nervous about having them use these glasses. They are pretty careful about using them and are constantly intrigued by the 'floating water'.
Overall, I would recommend these glasses, as long as you exercise a little bit more care when handling them, or at least, not have the mindset that they're indestructible. Yes, they're expensive, they're gorgeous to look at, but remember that they're also glass and glass = fragile. |

newer model is too fragile, leaks |
|
This newer model (2009-2010) does not measure up to the prior models. I have an older set of these purchased at least 2 years ago, and they are still in tip-top shape. I then purchased two more sets this year and all are broken already. The newer model (which I assume is what is available online these days) seems to be made of thinner glass. Moreover, the seal on the bottom is covered with some sort of plastic button (the older model did not have this but rather, was solid glass). Prior to breakage, I had problems with moisture seeping in between the glass layers. The original product was sturdy and definitely kept hots hot and colds cold. The newer model does, too...while they are still in one piece. Shame on Bodum for cutting corners. |

Stuff Works! |

Great quality workmanship and extreme performance with awesome hot/cold insulation. My favorite beverage container. Use it every day. Beware of imitators. Awesome! Will buy more. Don't cry when you break them though,... |

No Sweat! |
|
We live in SW Florida where summers are sweaty hot. Not just for people but for cold drinks as well. Frustrated by condensation soaked coasters we decided to try a set of these. They worked so well we ordered another set of the 12oz size. I recomend the 12 oz glasses over the 8.5's which are a little too small for most things. |
